7-9 April 2010. This morning we had to retrace our steps for 250 kms along the Lasseter Highway to reconnect with the Stuart Highway and then turn north to Alice Springs. The country along the latter stretch was poor and not of much interest.
The overcast conditions have followed us. Wolfgang's left hand is giving him curry and his right shoulder and hand are in agony. He cannot even hold the computer mouse. We have therefore decided to make our first full day in Alice Springs a rest day.
A photograph of Alice Springs taken from Anzac Hill looking towards The Gap.....
When we came through The Gap yesterday the Todd River was bone dry! Heavy overnight rain, along with thunderstorms, has changed that. This is the third time in four months that the river has flowed - a very unusual occurrence in Alice Springs! Note the car and minibus on the highway to the right.
This main causeway into the shopping precinct approaching a traffic light is now inundated with water!
The caravan park is showing the effects of the heavy rain........
