DAY 117 : LEYCESTER'S REST

24 July 2010.  About 450 kms east of Ellendale we stopped at another free camp site for the night called Leycester's Rest.  The site is a memorial to the 13 year old who was killed in a road accident here.  The family have established a scholarship in his name.
Campers leave contributions.....
The roads here are well made and maintained but they are quite dangerous where they narrow to one lane at every bridge or elevated piece of road..... it's difficult to judge if the oncoming traffic is going to give way..... here there are skid marks on the road where it narrows..... (click image to enlarge)..
The road trains with four trailers also pose a threat (here they're transporting nickel and zinc ore to the port of Wyndham)....
Other roadside hazards are wild brumbies.....
and wandering cattle....

  1. Hi, good to see you are now on your way over. We are still in Cairns and will follow your journey across. Great photos (as usual). All is well. Take care and lots of love, Sandy and Tim xx
